"The 2009 Pinot Noir The Haven is beautifully focused from start to finish. Subtle floral notes are woven throughout a core of expressive dark red and black fruit. There is plenty of generosity and mid-palate juiciness. This is another of the more fruit-driven, juicy wines in 2009, but there is also plenty of underlying minerality to provide support. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021.
I was totally blown away by the wines I tasted with proprietor Ted Lemon. These are some of the most refined, polished Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs being made in California today. I can’t recommend the wines highly enough. Lemon describes 2009 as a mild season with prolonged bloom that resulted in considerable shatter and a high amount of shot berries. There was no real heat to speak of in September. The 2010s were harvested during the first two weeks of October, much later than the 2009s. I also tasted a handful of 2010 Pinots from tank that appear promising, even if stylistically they aren’t as generous as the 2009s." (Wine Advocate #199 Feb 2012 Antonio Galloni Drink: 2014 - 2021)

"This supple, graceful wine exhibits black tea, cherry, ripe plum, mineral and wilted rose scents that follow through to a full body. Pleasantly firm and expansive on the finish, where the berry flavors retain their vitality. Drink now through 2020. 252 cases made. –JL"

"(13.4% alcohol; these vines, located two ridges north of Thieriot, were planted in 2001): Bright medium-deep red. Captivating, soil-driven nose melds black fruits, musky earth and underbrush; reminded me of Bonnes-Mares. Then large-scaled, dense and seamless but light on its feet, showing sweet berry fruit enlivened by spices, pepper and wild herbs. As classically dry as this broad wine is, it's also quite plush, not to mention powerful. The long finish features thoroughly buffered tannins. Very complex pinot in a Burgundian style." 2009 Littorai The Haven Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (13.4%):
"Ted Lemon's first estate parcel, above the Willow Creek watershed outside Occidental just a few miles from the coast, shows an astounding polish — of the sort that makes it an undoubted source for some of the best Pinot Noir on this continent. From a nuanced vintage, this shows a refinement that launches it to the ranks of top Pinot anywhere. A perfect balance of savory — spice from whole grape clusters and dry bark scents and intense boysenberry and blue fruit. Already completely fulfilling and yet built for 15 years."
