ワインメーカーTodd Alexander’s Tasting Notes:
The 2010 BETTINA boasts a gorgeous, concentrated core of blue and black fruit, enveloped by aromatic notes of hoisin sauce, plum, candied violets, clove, honeysuckle, menthol, fennel and anise.  The complexity and purity are stunning.  On the palate this full-bodied beauty reveals a subtle minerality with sweet, fine tannins and vibrant acidity.  Like the 2010 Bryant Family Vineyard, the transitions are seamless and the finish goes on and on.  The 2010 Bettina will reward years of cellaring, but can be enjoyed within the next few years with a 20 minute decant. 
 
The 2010 BETTINA comprises fruit from Abreu vineyard sites Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos and Lucia Howell Mountain.  It is driven by 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a balance of 16% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

"The 2010 Bettina exhibits abundant notes of graphite, charcoal, blackberries and espresso roast along with fabulous fruit concentration and an unctuously textured, full-bodied mouthfeel with great definition and richness. This superb Bordeaux blend is more broodingly backward than the 2009, but it demonstrates the potential for at least two decades of longevity.

Since its debut vintage in 1992, the Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has always been 100% Cabernet Sauvignon made from a 13-acre vineyard atop Pritchard Hill, overlooking Lake Hennessey. It is a magnificent site that has served as a catalyst for other producers to plant vineyards in this gorgeous, distinctive micro-climate and terroir. The Bettina cuvee, named after Don Bryant’s wife, is a proprietary blend from viticulturist David Abreu’s three estate vineyards, Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos and his estate on Howell Mountain called Lucia. Often dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, it usually includes a considerable amount of Cabernet Franc and smaller quantities of Merlot and Petit Verdot. A third cuvee called DB4 is the least expensive offering produced from the same vineyards as the Bettina. Although I have not tasted any recent vintages, it is made in a more forward, drinkable style. As for the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon flagship wine from Pritchard Hill, after a period where Bryant Family changed winemakers and there were numerous distractions (2001 and 2002), these wines have come back to represent some of the most singular and prodigious Cabernet Sauvignons of Napa Valley."  (

"The 2010 Bettina is drop dead gorgeous. Mint, cloves, flowers, menthol and licorice are some of the many notes that burst from the glass. The 2010 is all about nuance, delineation and precision. There is a vibrancy to the 2010 that is simply striking. Dark blue and black fruit, balsamic notes, crushed rocks and pencil shavings are all layered into the powerful, mineral-infused finish. This is a stellar showing from Bryant. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030.

Perched on Pritchard Hill above the shores of Lake Hennessey, Bryant is without question one of the most spectacular vineyards in Napa Valley. I don’t see any reason why the Cabernets that emerge from this property shouldn’t be among the top 5-10 wines in the valley each and every year, but continuity is the key to making that happen. Following the departure of Helen Turley in 2002, Bryant has employed Philippe Melka, Mark Aubert, Ross Wallace, Helen Keplinger and now Todd Alexander, who took over in October 2012."
