2011 Big Basin Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains |
90ポイント インターナショナル・ワイン・セラー(Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar)
"Vivid ruby. Pungent, smoke-accented aromas of dark berries, cherry pit and black cardamon, lifted by a subtle mineral topnote. Sappy and penetrating in the mouth, showing good depth and energy to the cherry-vanilla and smoky herb flavors. Gains sweetness with air and finishes with an echo of vanilla and soft, well-knit tannins. "

ワインメーカー・ノート
To say 2011 was a challenging vintage is an understatement. Summer never came and a winter storm slammed the mountains the first weekend of June, destroying a majority of the flowers which should have ultimately become grapes. Temperatures remained cool the remainder of the growing season and wet weather returned in October. We harvested the majority of this Pinot Noir from a few mountain vineyards in mid-October. The resulting wine reminds us that challenging vintages bring out the best in farmers and winemakers.
The 2011 Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir has an expressive nose of crushed rocks, black cherries, brambleberry and hints of bergamont. Well balanced with abundant tannin and good acidity that gives focus to the intense wild berry fruit and helps the finish build and linger. With additional time in the glass, notes of orange rind, wet earth and anise emerge along with delicious dark berry on the palate followed by savory elements on the finish. This wine is no doubt a great value and will likely age as well as any of our single vineyard Pinots.
